Plateau-Mont-Royal, where creativity comes to play

Known simply as “The Plateau” by locals, this creative borough in the City of Montréal spans 8 km² and sits at the foot of the Mount Royal mountain. Ideally located next to the city centre, this charming and dynamic neighbourhood is bursting with activity from dusk till dawn.
A happy mix of cultures and languages  With 35 percent of residents coming from abroad, it’s the destination of choice for young people and families from France, in particular. And English speakers are made to feel equally at home, adding to the area’s dynamic and multilingual culture.

Over the years, the Plateau has developed into one of Montréal’s most diverse and inclusive neighbourhoods.
Park life  Montréalers love nothing more than hanging out in the park. Luckily, the Plateau has green spaces to spare, and you can find people enjoying picnics, barbecuing and playing guitar under the trees every day (and night) of the week, all year round.

Nestled right below the world-famous Mount Royal Park, Parc Jeanne-Mance is one of the most popular parks in the city. Locals and tourists alike can be found playing beach volleyball, tennis, soccer and baseball all summer long. The park’s playground and paddling pool have recently been renovated to keep the little ones entertained. And every Sunday until the snow falls, Montréalers come together for the Tam-Tams, a free weekly festival with drummers, bongo players and street vendors.  This is where friends get together to BBQ and have fun. This stunning park is also home to a public swimming pool, a pétanque (a French take on lawn bowls) court, two baseball fields, a soccer pitch and more.

One of the city’s favourite parks and the perfect place to chill out under the sun. It features two kids play areas, tennis courts and several other sports fields, as well as an artificial pond (complete with a beautiful water fountain) that is transformed into an ice rink in winter.

Live in the heart of the action  Step outside and land right in the heart of the action. In Plateau-Mont-Royal, everything you need is at your doorstep—boutiques, cafés, banks, pharmacies and even community pianos!
This is one of the most popular streets in the city, lined with eclectic boutiques, thrift stores and lively restaurants, cafés and bars.

Boulevard Saint-Laurent, a.k.a. “The Main,” is another hotspot in the city. A few times every year, the street is closed off to traffic to host some of the summer’s best activities, from block parties and street sales to Mural Festival, Montréal’s world famous street art festival.

Another of Montréal’s main streets packed with specialty stores, eateries, cafés, theatres and activities all year round.  The list of action-packed Plateau streets goes on and on! You’ll get to know them well if you move into the area, whenever you’re on the lookout for great eats and eclectic finds.
Minutes from the main attractions
Getting around is easy in the Plateau, whether you’re travelling by foot, bike or subway. Thanks to the orange subway line, you can reach downtown and the surrounding areas in minutes. Food, clothes, live music and entertainment … everything you need is just a short walk away, and pedestrians are always given priority!
A renter’s paradise  The Plateau has no shortage of great places to rent. The vast majority of residents are renters, paying an average of $970 a month. Only two percent of properties here are houses, selling for above the Greater Montréal average thanks to the neighbourhood’s popularity.
Mile End, the Brooklyn of Montréal Mile End and hipster style go hand in hand. Located on the western border of Plateau-Mont-Royal, this hip neighbourhood is known for its avant-garde style and artistic community. Dotted with creative spaces, art galleries, crowded cafés, cute boutiques and thrift stores, it’s the perfect place to spend a lazy Sunday afternoon. Go window shopping, get inspired and find a world of hidden treasures!

Choosing to settle in Montréal is one of the best moves you could ever make. The only problem is trying to pick a neighbourhood when you’ve got so many possibilities!
