The Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM) is a French-language university with an international outreach. It is recognized for the originality and quality of its programs and its cutting-edge research, solidly grounded in social concerns.
Innovation has been central to the mission of UQAM, a pioneer in the development of many fields of study not traditionally found in an academic setting. It offers 365 study programs, many of these unique in Quebec, Canada and North America. Following the creation of her faculty of health sciences in 2024, the University is actively working on developing a new approach to health.  
Over a hundred research and creative units
The University’s researchers, working in more than a hundred research and creative units, are awarded numerous prizes and distinctions each year. UQAM maintains several centers for international research, including the Montreal Institute of International Studies.
Over the years, UQAM has established agreements with over 300 institutions in 50 countries, in addition to the numerous links created through its membership in international university networks. Each year, it welcomes more than 5,000 foreign students from over 100 countries.

Bernard Duhaime, professor, department of legal sciences
UN Special Rapporteur

Professor Bernard Duhaime joined UQAM’s Faculty of Political Science and Law, after studying international law at the University of Notre Dame and serving at the Organization of American States in Washington DC. He has also been a Canada-US Fulbright Visiting Chair in Public Diplomacy at the University of Southern California, as well as a Visiting Fellow at Harvard Law School and at New York University School of Law.” He has been a Member and President of the United Nations Working Group on Enforced or Involuntary Disappearances and is currently the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the promotion of truth, justice, reparation and guarantees of non-recurrence.

Lucie Ménard, Vice-Rector of Research, Creation and Diffusion

Lucie Ménard has been a professor and researcher at UQAM for over 20 years and has been a full professor in the Department of Linguistics since 2011. Throughout her career, she has conducted research on language development, both from a theoretical perspective and in applied contexts within industrial and clinical settings. She now serves as Vice-Rector of Research, Creation and Diffusion at UQAM. Deeply convinced of the importance of academic research and creation in addressing major societal challenges, she aims to develop major intersectoral initiatives that will actively contribute to training young talent and shaping the world of tomorrow.
